Psalm 92

If we want to stay on track in our walk of faith we need to gather together regularly to worship the Lord. God commands us to worship Him, but apart from that duty, we can say with the psalmist, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord!” This is what we were made to do.

But what can we do when we face deep troubles and have almost nothing left to give to our Most High God? Then we can give to Him out of our poverty like the woman who put two small copper coins into the temple treasury in the days of Jesus. Are you almost out of joy entirely? Take the two copper coins of it that you have left and give them to the Lord. Is your wisdom or courage failing you? Take what little you have of these gifts from God and give to Him out of your poverty.

The Lord is not lacking in anything. We do not give Him our peace, our joy, our wisdom, and our courage because He needs these. We give these to Him because it is good to honor Him. His works are great! His thoughts are deep. When we praise Him in worship, we remember that the Lord will accomplish His holy will, and that our salvation is very near.

The Lord will not be a debtor to a humble worshiper. He will repay you many times over for whatever you give to Him.

How much money does a poor widow have left when she gives her last two copper coins to God? Nothing. How much joy do you have left when you give that little bit of joy to Him right now? You can say to Him, “Lord, you know I have a poverty of joy right now, so I have decided to spend it all on you. I give you this joy in prayer.” He is able to give food to the widow, and He is able to give surprising help to you as you give yourself to Him as one who is poor in Spirit.

The righteous will flourish. They may be weak now. They may be assailed by the Lord's adversaries, but they will find new strength as a gift from Him. Even if they die at the hands of a violent and deceived mob, they will live with the Lord forever. They will bear fruit in the house of the Lord.

How rich was Jesus on the cross? How much joy did He have left? How much courage? How much strength to think and to feel? I may never know how to answer those questions. But I know this: On that dark day, He spent whatever He had left to the glory of His Father. Finally, He committed His Spirit into the hands of the Most High. Now He is flourishing as our King forever.

Come and worship the Lord with me. It is good to do what He commands. Let us declare together that the Lord is upright. He is our rock. There is no unrighteousness in Him.

Re the murder of the Christians in Homs, particularly the ones held for ransom. The ransom was paid and then their murdered bodies were found. Our Lord ransomed us and did not forget His promise. We cry for those believers murdered by men and we praise God that even their ignoble deaths have been ransomed because of the sure Word. Sis
