Proverbs 25

Why does one man live and another man die? Only God knows.
The Lord places people in authority over others. Particularly in a time of war they make life and death decisions every day. Who is sufficient for these things? Above every commander is the One King who is more than sufficient in His wisdom, power, and love. Trust Him with all your heart.
Leading others well is a gift from God. It requires a good ear and a sound mind, but especially self-control in speech. A ruler's voice sets people in motion. Some will live and some will die.
A commanding officer faces so many different situations that require much wisdom. He must not seek his own glory or he will go astray and others will suffer the loss. When he weighs evidence before making a decision, he must have sound judgment concerning the truth of what he has heard from his advisers. He must make good decisions concerning the character of those around him.
How will he help those who have gone through profound loss when they come before him? What will he say to them in their brokenness? How will he treat his enemies? Will he give them bread to eat if they are hungry and something to drink if they are thirsty? Will he have grace toward those who are defeated and humility before the Lord of hosts? How will he live with those who are closest to him; his children, and his wife? Will he have insight enough to see the schemes of the wicked and courage enough to stand in their way? Will he have self-control?
You only know the quality of a commander after he has been tested. The Captain of our salvation has faced the most horrific testing for us. He has fought the good fight. He has finished the race. He has kept the faith. He is now the Supreme Ruler Over All.
When we face the worst sorrows, it is of some comfort to consider Jesus and the kingdom of God in heaven. Let us listen to the Word as we are able and care for each other by the power of the Holy Spirit. And let us wait patiently for the appearing of our King. We know that our Redeemer lives.
