Psalm 106

Has everything in our lives been easy? Of course not. Is the Lord good, and worthy of praise? Absolutely! His steadfast love endures forever.

The Lord is a God who saves. He gives His people righteousness through the one Man who did what was right at all times, His Son, Jesus. In Him we find the safety that we could never find on our own.

When the Lord shows favor to Jesus, He remembers us. When he hears the petitions of Jesus, He helps us. Our eternal prosperity, gladness, and glory are all due to His greatness and His perfect works.

The history of Israel is not a story that shows us how righteous we are. Quite the opposite. Yet look at the salvation that God continually brought to His people. There is a lesson here for our consideration. Our salvation must come to us through the work of a Substitute, a Lamb of God, who takes away our sin. For those who are willing to see, the story of a Messiah who would be a Suffering Servant as well as a victorious King, is all over the Old Testament.

The Lord not only saved Israel at the Red Sea. Over and over again the people forgot the Lord, but when they were brought to cry out to Him again, He rescued them. We can call upon Him now. We can receive the gift of repentance, and come to God through the one Mediator between God and man.

Moses stood in the breach before the wrath of God. But eventually Moses died, and Joshua took His place. Joshua's days also came to an end, and the list goes on. Not all of the judges and kings were great examples of holiness, but all of them, even the best, died. But now a Covenant Head has appeared who is perfect in holiness, and who has resurrection life forever. He always lives to stand in the breach for us.

This perfect Lamb of God, this greatest of all the sons of David, is our everlasting hope. Today, we can cry out to God in His Name. Our record of obedience is not our confidence. He is the Man. We trust in Him.

Therefore, we will call upon the Name of the Lord, even now. We have new confidence that He will gather all His elect to Himself. We will worship the Lord and glorify His Name together forever.
