2 Chronicles 3

The Chronicler has recorded for his readers some of the design details of Solomon's temple. This temple was built in a specific place and in accord with the plan of the king.
The location had a long heritage. It was on Mount Moriah that Abraham was ready to sacrifice Isaac so long ago until God provided a substitute to take the place of the child of promise. It was also here where the plague against Jerusalem had been stopped toward the end of David's reign. The site of the temple was to be a place of mercy for sinners.
The builders working on this important project used certain materials and built according to specified dimensions set by the king's construction plan. The details recorded here reminded the returning exiles about the facility that had once been the center of Israel's worship. Would the Lord enable them to rebuild? Would God be present with His people in the new temple? Would God raise up another king in the line of David to lead the nation forward through their present difficulty? These questions would be answered in later historical books.
Our affections today are not focused upon any building, but upon the King who is at work from heaven building His kingdom. The old thirty by thirty foot room that was once known as the Most Holy Place is no more. Even before the Romans destroyed the temple in the year 70, God Himself had torn down the curtain separating this most restricted section of the temple from the area next to it.
Through the torn flesh of Jesus Christ we now have bold access to the Father of Glory. He is present with us. We are His people. He is our constant inspiration as we seek to build His church according to the plan that He has given to us in His Word.
