Psalm 107

Giving thanks to God is not dependent upon the circumstances that you currently face, but upon Him. We should give thanks to the Lord because He is good. His steadfast love endures forever.

The Lord has done great things for us. He has redeemed us from death and secured for us all the blessings of eternal life.

What are we to do if devastating circumstances, arise in our lives? We can still thank God. He is still good, and His steadfast love is still with us. We should also cry out to Him for help.

We remember His great acts of deliverance in the past, and our hearts are strengthened. The common thread throughout this psalm is this: Desperate people cried out to the Lord and he delivered them. Don't give up. Call upon the Name of the Lord in your troubles. He satisfies the longing soul with good things.

If we are in the deepest prison of His discipline, He is still well able to hear us at just the right time. Today may be that time. His answer of help may come sooner than you imagine. Thank Him for His goodness, and then ask Him for His grace in your distress.

God hears the cries of sinners. It's a fact. The proud self-righteous ones don't need a physician, but Jesus eats with prostitutes and tax-collectors, and he heals them. “Jesus, what a friend for sinners!” We should sing about it. We should give thanks to the Lord.

Think also about the apostles on the storm-tossed sea. They were in great need. “Master, Master, we are perishing!” He rebuked the wind and the waves, and nature obeyed Him. He is nature's God.

Oppression, evil, and the sorrows of life bring us low, but the Lord is able to lift us up out of that pit. Call upon His Name. Then keep calling upon His Name again. Worship Him, and give Him thanks.

Are you wise in the things of the Lord? Then consider the cross. It is the steadfast costly love of the Lord for you made visible. Look at the empty tomb. It is the power of God that raises the dead, the first of many empty tombs to come. Consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our salvation, and thank the Lord for His power and His steadfast love.
