Jeremiah 14

We all love convenience. If we live in a nation with a strong free economy and a good infrastructure, we may find it hard to relate to what people face in a land where drought is a constant threat. How would we react if there were really no water anywhere? How would we live if lack of food and drink was not just an inconvenience that could be easily solved by a trip to a store? What if our need for supplies was actually a matter of survival?

Jeremiah 12

It is hard for us to hear about the wrath of God against God’s enemies and to give a whole-hearted “Amen.” In part this is explained by the fact that we love the grace of God as those who are so completely dependant on the mercy that has richly come to us through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Furthermore, we feel that we ourselves are too similar to those who are the enemies of the Lord. How can we rejoice in the justice of God against the same?

Jeremiah 8

The desecration of a grave is a horrible thing. We must deal with the wrenching grief of death in this fallen world. Survivors do what they can to show respect for the remains of a loved one. When people give an orderly burial for a person who is gone, they do well. They would love to call the deceased back to life, but this is beyond their power. Though it may feel so horribly inadequate, our feeble efforts at such a time are a measure of human dignity. It is a horrible attack against the memory of a person to have that grave disturbed in any way.
