Birthday Celebration at the Ebys

Tonight we had a very moving birthday party for David and Rose (seated with Dr. Dave Eby on the couch). Also note Suzanne behind the couch who is one of the students on our evangelism team from the other day. What a blessing this night was! I wish every person in our church could have witnessed the hospitality and love that comes from God that Mike, Andy, and I were able to witness tonight. It was wonderful.

Students in Uganda

The student to the left is a refugee from Congo

On our way to the village, we sang psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs in our row on the bus. Lots of glorious fun.

Family we spoke with in Uganda

We presented a very full gospel message to this family in the village. The two tall Africans on the far left and right are students.

Quick Note for the Church

Dear Friends,

Andy Wilson, Mike Kooy and I are having a great time in Uganda. This last week we have been staying with Dave and Darlene Eby. Dave Eby was Mike Kooy's pastor in San Diego before he came to New Hampshire. Dave is serving at Westminster Theological College and Seminary in Kampala, Uganda. We were able to sit in on classes, participate in an evangelistic mission to a village outside of Kampala, take part in a special party with the students, as well as many other things. The hospitality of the Eby's is extraordinary.

The students come not only from Uganda, but also from Rwanda, Congo, and Sudan. The level of instruction is excellent. One of the African pastors was a classmate of Mike Cooy's at Westminster West. His lecture on the Doctrine of Humanity was first-rate. Dr. Eby gave a fascinating class on African Church history. Two students gave reports on two Scottish missionaries who were used by God in this region in the 19th century. It was very inspiring to the other students and to us.

Next week we go to African Bible College where Palmer Robertson teaches. We will be preaching 14 messages on First Thessalonians. We have been reviewing those messages with each other, which is a wonderful and unusual opportunity for all of us.

Thank you for your prayers. I am eager to return with new boldness and the blessings of these African brothers and sisters. May the Lord use us all mightily for the glory of His Name.

Every Blessing in Christ,
Steve

Settling into Uganda

We have arrived in Uganda. Staying with the Ebys, former pastor of Mike Kooy, and MTW missionaries. They are serving a college/seminary in Kampala. Here are some of the students we met today. Tomorrow we are going out to a village as part of an evangelistic mission...

Off to Uganda

I'll be at African Bible College in Uganda for the next two weeks. I will try to log some entries from Africa. When I return I will pick up with Proverbs 11 in morning worship after I get some rest. There are some "Faith of Our Fathers" books on the book table that are a devotional guide that starts on May 3rd and continues for 50 days until General Assembly in June. The price is $5. Please take one and use it. Doug will be preaching two Chris Robinson sermons on Revelation 14:13 while I am gone. Matt will start a Sunday School series on the Westminster Confession of Faith. Looking forward to seeing you all when I return.

In Christ's Love,
Steve P.S. Family picture from Easter above. Missing you already.

Morning Devotion - Prov. 10

Read Proverbs 10

Note the following:
1. About one third of the proverbs in Chapter 10 are about COMMERCE (as v. 4), and
2. About one third are about the TONGUE [and by extension the heart] (as v. 13), and
3. About one third are about a person's LEGACY (as v. 28).

Further note: Note the appeal to RELATIONSHIP in verse 1 and compare with Matthew 3:17.

The Point: Whoever can tame his heart and his tongue is a perfect man. He will be pleasing to his father, and his legacy will be one of the greatest prosperity.

Such perfection was necessary for us to be rightly related to God as our father, and Christ has fully supplied this perfection for us. Through Him, the Father is pleased with you. Let your love for your father in heaven today be expressed today by hearing His Word of wisdom and obeying Him.

May God's grace and peace be with you this day.

Morning Devotion - Proverbs 9

Read Proverbs 9

Note the following:
1. The good call of Wisdom,
2. The contrast between the true wise man who listens and learns in humility and the scoffer who is too intelligent to learn anything, and
3. The wicked and seductive call of Folly that leads to death.

Further note: John 13:1-7 - the humility and service of the Son of God

The Point: The Lord our God calls us again to Himself this morning by Jesus Christ, the most excellent, loving, and humble Wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:18-25). Be washed by Him now, and turn away from the pathway of falsely superior intelligent scoffing.

May God's grace and peace be with you this day.

Morning Devotion - Proverbs 8

Read Proverbs 8

Notice these four things:
1. The public cry of precious wisdom
2. The connection between divine wisdom and public order and prosperity
3. The Word of wisdom is with God and is God (John 1).
4. Hear the word of wisdom and live!

The Point: Oh the greatness of the divine Word of wisdom - who became man and brought us life through His death - Hear Him and live!

Morning Devotion - Proverbs 7

Read Proverbs 7

Note these points:
1. The secret dangers of adultery
2. Consider that adultery is treated throughout the Bible as a great attack against God and His people.
3. "Wisdom" is the answer (7:1-5)

The point: The Lord hates adultery, and is utterly committed to the marriage of His Son (the Wisdom of God) and His glorious bride(the Church). Through Christ we find forgiveness for even our most foolish and wretched sins.
