Apostles Creed, #13

Continuing in the Apostles Creed... I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,

"Died,"

Jesus died.

This was the penalty that we deserved from the beginning. Adam sinned for us. Jesus, the Messiah, died for us.

There was no last minute rescue for Him. It was necessary that He be the sin offering for us. For us and for our transgressions, He poured out His soul to death.

Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Leviticus 4:13 If the whole congregation of Israel sins unintentionally and the thing is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they do any one of the things that by the Lord's commandments ought not to be done, and they realize their guilt, 14 when the sin which they have committed becomes known, the assembly shall offer a bull from the herd for a sin offering and bring it in front of the tent of meeting. 15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before the Lord, and the bull shall be killed before the Lord.

Isaiah 53:8 ... he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people.

Isaiah 53:12 ... he poured out his soul to death.
